Haruru House - Local Area Information

Beaches and Outdoors

The surrounding countryside to Bude is amongst some of the most picturesque in Cornwall, with much of the coastline around Bude designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The famous Bude Canal is an extraordinary engineering feat of the early 19th century, with an awesome cafe at the end to enjoy a well-deserved coffee, after a stroll along the canal.

The North Cornwall coast provides some of the finest surfing in the country and Bude's beaches are popular all year round. These beautiful sandy beaches provide the perfect setting to relax and unwind with friends and family; with most having lifeguard cover over the summer months.

There are eight beaches in and around Bude, including Widemouth bay which has over 2 miles of sandy beach at low tide and is the perfect beach for rock pooling. Crooklets Beach, our local beach, is called the 'Bondi of Britain' and provides ideal conditions for surfers with regular surf and life-saving demonstrations throughout the year. Summerleaze, a 10 minute walk from the property is another beautiful beach with a great cafe overlooking it, which is well worth a visit. Northcott is another beach which is 10 minutes walk from the property. It is a secluded spot where you can enjoy some peace and quiet.

Bude Town and Attractions

Bude has an interesting selection of unique independent shops and 2 large supermarkets along with a modern indoor heated swimming pool.

There are also many other recreational activities available throughout the area including climbing, abseiling, coastal traversing, coasteering, windsurfing, yoga, kayaking, canoeing and orienteering.

A must for any visit to the North Coast is enjoying walking on part of the South West Coast path. The dramatic and ever-changing coastline provides some spectacular scenery and breathtaking views.

There is a golf course on the doorstep (club house is a 15 minute walk), public tennis courts and crazy golf in Bude centre.
